Casual Workshops
Ako Hokianga is the arts arm of the Hokianga focussed charitable trust - Hokianga Community Educational Trust (HCET). They predominantly work out of the Old Rawene Campus where they rent a few rooms to run our workshops.
HCET is committed to supporting and enhancing any opportunities to the hapori of Hokianga and Ako Hokianga specifically provides affordable arts workshops led by local experts.
Ako has a large focus on a stone carving programme where they have developed revolving Beginner, Intermediate and Masters courses.
They also have a focus on clay work primarily hosted by Kristina Robertson but also bring in other Te Tai Tokerau uku practitioners.
The programme changes all the time as they try to respond to what their community asks for. Some fundamentals are uku & kohatu but over the years the programme has included tapestry, taonga puoro, bone carving, collage, creative & poetry writing, basic jewellery techniques, print making, Tukutuku and more.
