The Work on Show

Denis Bourke reduces geomorphology to essential forms, drawing on his Taranaki upbringing and studies in Physical Geography. His acrylic paintings on canvas, hardboard and wood panels use map conventions and layered transparencies to explore how human activity overlays natural landforms like a palimpsest.

Joel Cayford presents photographic collages and images made around Mangawhai that confront climate and weather changes. His work challenges viewers to reconsider what they see when blue skies and calm seas suggest all is well. The exhibition runs from 29 August 2026 to 10 September 2026, open daily 10:00 – 15:00.

Location and Directions

Mangawhai Artists Gallery and Workspace sits at 45 Moir Street in the heart of Mangawhai, Northland. The coastal village setting, with its distinctive light and rural character, provides a fitting backdrop for work that examines land and environmental change. Ample parking makes the venue easy to reach for visitors from across the Kaipara district.
