True Colours in Flight

There's a bird here in New Zealand like no other - and this painting is my tribute to it. I am Kea catches the kea mid-flight, wings thrown open, as a symbol of freedom, courage, and living boldly in your own true colours. Bright, bold, and full of spirit.

Description

Media: Acrylic on stretched canvas, ready to hang

Size: 8 x 10” / 20x25cm, 1.5" inch edge

The kea is the world's only alpine parrot - cheeky, nosy, a total character. Sitting on the ground it looks pretty unassuming, just a scruffy olive-green thing. But the second it spreads its wings, this hidden blaze of colour flashes out - colour you'd never have picked was in there at all.

That's exactly why I had to paint it. This one came while I was finding my feet as a full-time artist - painting straight from the heart at last, nothing held back, nothing toned down to suit anyone else. The kea only shows its true colours when it flies. And for the first time, I feel like I am too.

The koru curling through its wings carry that same thing - the energy and freedom of full flight, the new growth that comes when we finally let ourselves rise. The feeling of being completely, unapologetically you.

I named it I am Kea because that's the whole heart of it. My hope is that it sits on your wall as a quiet daily reminder - your brightest colours are already in you, and out they come every time you're brave enough to just be yourself.

Whangarei Harbour

Silke HendelNorthland

Some places just hold your memories for you. Whangarei Harbour is one of those for me - I've sailed these waters for years, and this one came out of a trip with my Dad not long ago to watch the Tuesday night races. Boats out on the water, the light going soft over the hills, Dad beside me. I wanted to keep all of it. So this painting is really a little love letter to those evenings - the fun, the calm, the easy happiness of being out there together. Description Media: Acrylic on stretched canvas, ready to hang Size: 16 x 20” / 40.64x50.8cm, 3/4" inch edge The harbour's gentle curves sit cradled by that mountain range we all know so well, the water still and quiet. I painted it in complementary colours that sit happily side by side, so the whole thing feels restful - the kind of scene that slows your breathing a little when you look at it. Maybe it's the coastal charm that pulls you in, or maybe you've got your own harbour memories tucked away. Either way, it brings a bit of that timeless, peaceful beauty home with you. First Light Over Paradise

Silke HendelNorthland

Golden Hour at the Bay There's a moment, right as the sun lifts over the water, when everything goes gold and the whole coast seems to hold its breath. That's the moment I chased onto this canvas - turquoise waves catching the first light, the sky warming up in soft pinks and blush. An original acrylic painting that brings a little calm, a little joy, and a whole lot of colour into your home. Made for the ones who feel most themselves with sand underfoot and sea air in their lungs. Description Media: Acrylic on stretched canvas, ready to hang Size: 24 x 36” / 61x91.5cm, 1.5" inch edge First Light Over Paradise isn’t just a painting – it’s a feeling. It started with a sunrise at the Bay of Islands. I was standing at the water's edge, the horizon just starting to glow, and the whole sky kind of cracked open into colour. The waves lit up. And I had that feeling - the one where the day ahead suddenly seems full of good things. That's what I wanted to keep. Not just the view, but the lift it gives you. It's a bit like a morning hug from nature, hanging on your wall - a quiet daily nudge that life really is beautiful, and there's always more good coming. Pop it in the living room, the bedroom, wherever you start your day, and your wall becomes a little window back to the shore. Features: Signed: Personally signed by Silke Hendel Certificate of Authenticity: with all the artwork details. Protective finish: acid free matte varnish finish protects your artwork against dirt, dust, fading, moisture, discolouration and abrasion Packaging: wrapped up safe and snug with all the protection it needs to reach you in perfect shape.
